Rotary kiln is a high-temperature processing device used to heat materials to high temperatures through kneading in a continuous process. 

Materials produced using rotary kilns include: cement, lime, refractory materials, metakaolin, titanium dioxide, alumina, vermiculite, iron ore pellets, etc. It can also be used in the front-end of metal extraction, preparing ore for smelting by roasting various sulfide ores.

Working Principle


The rotary dryer operates by uniformly feeding materials to be dried into the kiln body through a chute inside the kiln head cover. The inclined rotation of the drum, driven by the rotary kiln’s rotating mechanism, causes loose powders or fine particles to spiral forward while continuously rolling and flowing within the drum. This movement ensures even heat distribution from hot air, leading to thorough drying as materials progress through the kiln.


Heating Method

A specialized burner unit heats the cylinder wall directly with its flame, increasing the wall temperature without direct contact between flue gas and material. Customized aluminum silicate high-temperature cotton insulates the outer walls, minimizing heat loss for enhanced drying efficiency and energy savings.


Equipment Structure

The rotary dryer comprises a combustion system, control system, cylinder (drum), kiln body, drive device, ignition device, exhaust system, and discharge system—all mounted on an integrated support frame.


Key components include:

Combustion System: Consists of a burner, control valves, electric actuator, combustion-supporting fan, and ignition device.
Cylinder: Equipped with gears at both ends, supported by wheels, and driven by a variable frequency speed-regulating motor via a gear-linked reducer. Inside, flip plates assist material movement.
Kiln Body: Constructed with high-quality refractory bricks or cotton and sealed with ceramic high-temperature cotton blankets to minimize heat dissipation.
Drive Device: Utilizes gear rotation with two output shafts on the reducer; includes manual or emergency drive mechanisms.
Feeder: Incorporates a hopper, screw conveyor (frequency-controlled), and stirring device.

Requirements

Components like buffer silo, screw conveyor, natural gas burner, dust removal system, and internal piping are essential.


Flow

Material Path: Buffer silo → Rotary kiln calcination → Subsequent material transport.
Wet Gas Path: Cylinder → Pulse bag dust collector.
Natural Gas Flue Gas: Handled by customer systems.


Heat Source for Calcination

Uses natural gas with a pressure of 10,000 Pa and a calorific value exceeding 10,000 kcal.


Calcination Waste Gas Treatment

Flue gas emissions from the cylinder connect to the customer's reserved pipeline for further processing.
